State College, PA - November 12, 2008 - Spectrum
Power Management Systems, a leading designer and manufacturer of AC and DC Power
Distribution Units, today announced their DC SMARTStart® PDU received NEBS Level
3 Certification from Stork Garwood Laboratories, Inc.
Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) testing
is required in the U.S. for equipment operated in the carrier networks of
Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) and Competitive Local Exchange
Carriers (CLECs). To obtain NEBS Level 3 Certification, the DC SMARTStart® was
subject to a multitude of extensive tests regarding Ambient Temperature and
Humidity, Equipment Handling, Resistance to Fire, Earthquake Survivability,
Vibration, Airborne Contaminants, ESD, Emissions, and AC Power Fault. Complete
compliance to all NEBS specifications ensures the user that the equipment being
installed is compatible with a typical RBOC central office.
Leonardo Marsala, Director of Sales and Marketing
for Spectrum Power Management Systems, stated, "This is an outstanding
achievement that our business unit is certainly proud of. NEBS Level 3 is the
highest level of conformance to NEBS specifications. Although commonly required
for the telecommunications industry, it is a major test of quality that is
extremely valuable for any organization utilizing network equipment. It ensures
that our DC SMARTStart® will operate properly in adverse conditions without
interfering with other important devices."
The DC SMARTStart® is designed for power
distribution and circuit protection for up to 12 individual DC loads at -48,
+12, or +24/+28 VDC. The unit provides the operator the ability to remote power
cycle any or all twelve solid state breakers as well as the two ROCB mains
breakers. This product is currently used in unmanned surface vessels, combat
vehicles, command posts, tactical wheeled vehicles, and solar powered network
infrastructures. It is also suitable for other applications including wind
turbine power plants and oil refineries. No matter what application, it is an
ideal solution for any device that has a DC supply and operates in a hard to get
to location. The unit features numerous methods of interfacing to set prescribed
user functions including SNMP or a Visual Basic (VB) interface to program the
power up/down sequence and power up/down delays for each channel, along with LVD
and OVD thresholds.
About Spectrum NEBS
Network Equipment Building Systems describes the
typical environment in a United States RBOC central office. NEBS was developed
by Bell Labs (now Telcordia) in the 1970s to standardize equipment to be
installed in a central office. The purpose of the testing is to ensure personnel
safety, environmental compatibility, protection of property, and minimal service
interruptions to the operator during the product’s lifetime. NEBS testing is
required in the U.S. for equipment operated in the carrier networks of Regional
Bell Operating Companies and Competitive Local Exchange Carriers.
